Zemi

The term Zemi comes from the Caribbean .

It refers to objects made of wood, stone or shells that are supposed to represent the gods and heroes of the locals. These objects, as well as their raw materials, are said to have special magical powers. Thus, placed in the grave, they should watch over the souls of the dead. They are also said to promote fertility when placed in fields.
