The Central Bank of Tanzania ( Swahili : Benki Kuu ya Tanzani a; English : Bank of Tanzania ) is the central bank of the Republic of Tanzania , based in Dar es Salaam . It was established by the Bank of Tanzania Act 1965 , operates on the basis of an amended law from 2006 ( Act No. 4 of 2006 ) and issues the national currency, the Tanzania shilling .

It is run by a governor and three deputy governors.
