Yangon Central Prison

The central prison of Rangoon (English Rangoon Central Gaol ) was in Rangoon , Myanmar . It was where the New General Hospital is now, north of Bo Gyoke Road. It was demolished in the post-war period. Today the Insein Prison is the main prison in the region.

history

On June 24, 1930, the prisoners rose in the wake of other unrest. 34 of a total of around 2000 inmates were shot.

During the Second World War , the Japanese housed 600 Allied prisoners of war here. On April 25, 1945, the Japanese withdrew. At times 13 Irish nuns were also interned.
