Central Committee of the Polish United Workers' Party
The Central Committee of the Polish United Workers 'Party ( Polish : Komitet Centralny Polskiej Zjednoczonej Partii Robotniczej , abbr. KC PZPR ) was the central government organ of the Polish United Workers' Party (Polska Zjednoczona Partia Robotnicza), the dominant political party in the People's Republic of Poland (1948-1990).
Until 1954, the party chairman was the chairman of the Central Committee. The chairmen of the Central Committee de facto replaced the abolished position of the Polish President:

The chairmen of the Central Committee were:
- 1st Secretary Bolesław Bierut (December 22, 1948– March 12, 1956; General Secretary until March 17, 1954 )
- 1st Secretary Edward Ochab (March 20, 1956– October 21, 1956)
- 1st Secretary Władysław Gomułka (October 21, 1956– December 20, 1970)
- 1st Secretary Edward Gierek (December 20, 1970 - September 6, 1980)
- 1st Secretary Stanisław Kania (September 6, 1980– October 18, 1981)
- 1st Secretary Wojciech Jaruzelski (October 18, 1981– July 29, 1989)
- 1st Secretary Mieczysław Rakowski (July 29, 1989– January 29, 1990)
Seat of the Central Committee
The seat of the Central Committee was until 1990 in a building that was officially called the House of the Party (Dom Partii) and was colloquially called the White House (Polish: Biały Dom ). This building was built between 1948 and 1952 from “donations” (cegiełka) from all of society. Today the building houses the banking and finance center .
