Kawai ( Japanese 川 井村 , Japanese Kawai-mura ) was a village community ( -mura ) in the district (-gun) Unter-Hei ( Shimo-Hei ) of the Japanese prefecture (-ken) Iwate , historically the district Hei of the province Rikuchū or Mutsu . Occasionally, to this day with the successors of the state railway, it was also called Rikuchū-Kawai ( 陸中川 井 ) to expressly differentiate it from places called Kawai in other provinces .

history

The new parishes in North, East, and Central Hei counties of Iwate in 1889; The 31st was Kawai-mura, at that time the seat of the district administration of Central-Hei, the 32nd and 33rd were the villages of Kadoma and Oguni, which were initially part of a community association and from 1955 onwards were completely united with Kawai .

In the Great Meiji Territorial Reform of 1889, Kawai-mura united seven pre-modern villages. From 1955 (Great Shōwa Territorial Reform), Kawai, through the merger with Kadoma and Oguni, comprised the entire former district of Middle-Hei ( Naka-Hei ) , one of the three forerunners of Shimo-Hei. On January 1, 2010, Kawai was incorporated into the independent city (-shi) Miyako .

Kawai is located in the center of Iwate in the Kitakami Mountains on the upper reaches of the river (-gawa) Hei , which overcomes almost 1000 meters of altitude on its 88 km long course from the source on the former western border of Kawai to the mouth in the original city center of Miyako. Much of the former municipal area consists of mountainous land. In the southwest, above Kadoma, is Mount (-san) Hayachine , the second highest mountain in Iwate.

traffic

The Yamada line of the east Japanese JR runs through the Hei Valley with six train stations in the former municipality of Kawai. It was built by the Ministry of Railways in the 1920s and 1930s between the capital Morioka in the west and the port of Miyako in the east, the Rikuchu-Kawai station opened in 1933. The national road 106 also runs through the Heigawa valley . To the south, the national road 340 branches off through the valley of the Ogunigawa and the place Oguni in the direction of Tōno .
