Central point

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The central point is the designation of a central safety point in alpine climbing , sport climbing or mountaineering . The central point is usually placed in the form of an HMS carabiner in an absolute fixed point (standing hook).

In the central point, the self-belay ( e.g. mast throw or tape sling ) and the companion safety device are attached. It is mostly used when building a stand : As soon as the person leading the way has reached the stand (after having climbed a pitch), he sets up the central point (e.g. on a stand hook or an hourglass loop). Then he applies his self-security and builds up the companion security and can thus continue to secure the next partner.
