Central Council of the Ezidis in Germany

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Central Council of the Ezidis in Germany (sometimes referred to as the Central Council of the Yazidis or Yazidis in Germany , abbreviated to ZÊD ) is an association based in Bielefeld , which sees itself as representing the interests of the Ezidis in Germany and at the same time as the umbrella organization for Ezidi organizations.

history

The Central Council of Yezidis in Germany was founded on January 29, 2017. Before that, there had been two Ezidi umbrella organizations: the Oldenburg- based Central Council of the Yezidi in Germany (ZYD), which was founded in 2007 on the occasion of the Sinjar attack against the Ezidi community and focused on Ezidi issues in Germany, and which was founded in 2008 Ezidî Central Council in Germany (EZiD), which had an international field of work. Both represented only a few member organizations each. The Central Council of the Ezidis in Germany sees itself as their successor organization, which covers a broader field of work and represents more member organizations.

composition

The members of the Central Council include 32 Yezidi communities, associations and cultural centers. Each member organization appoints a representative for the advisory board; these must be Ezidis. The board consists of 15 members; the 1st chairman has been Irfan Ortac since February 2019 (as of August 2019).

aims

The aim of the Central Council of Ezidis in Germany is to represent all the interests of Ezidis in their traditional settlement areas as well as in Germany and in the diaspora in general. The association would like to promote the unity and networking of Ezidis institutions, the research of Ezidis and the integration of the Ezidis in Germany. It pursues both religious goals - including the protection of the Ezidi religion, the recognition of Ezidis as a corporation under public law, the recognition of Ezidi holidays and the establishment of Ezidi religious instruction in schools - as well as political goals - including the recognition of the genocides of the Ezidis Yezidis, help for Yezidi refugees as well as the protection and reconstruction of the cities of Shingal and Lalisch and their Yezidi cultural institutions in the disputed areas of northern Iraq .
