The Center for Research and Development in Health Sciences of the UANL (Centro de Investigación y Desarrollo en Ciencias de la Salud, CIDICS) is a research facility of the Autonomous University of Nuevo Leon (Universidad Autónoma de Nuevo León, UANL), in Monterrey , Mexico . The center is dedicated to interdisciplinary biomedical research. The focus is on investigations into questions of the human genome, proteomics, genomics, experimental therapies and the like. a., as well as public health and bioethics.

History of the CIDICS and location

Its establishment is based on a proposal by the then General Secretary of the UANL and current Rector Dr. Jesus Ancer Rodríguez back, construction began in December 2006. The building was completed on September 29, 2009 by the then governor of the state of Nuevo Leon, Jose Natividad Gonzalez-Paras, and the then rector of the UANL, José Antonio González-Treviño (2003– 2009), inaugurated. In September 2014 the center celebrated its 5th year of work (its five-year anniversary). CIDICS is located on the UANL Health Sciences Campus in eastern Monterrey. The six-story building covers 14,400 square meters for laboratories and teaching facilities.

Concept of the center and its departments

The CIDICS (formerly also known as CIDCS) was conceived as a multidisciplinary center and develops its activities on the basis of the concept of interdisciplinary research with the aim of bringing together scientists and specialist knowledge from different schools and institutes of the UANL. Projects are planned, organized and carried out jointly with schools from the UANL, other universities and industry.

The scientists at CIDICS are mainly professors from the different schools of the UANL such as B. the faculties of medicine with the university clinic, for dentistry, biology , veterinary medicine , chemistry , nutritional science , psychology and others, as well as the university health center program and the clinic for university employees.

The center has the following working groups and laboratories: bioethics, bio-imaging, biological models, pharmacological and clinical research, emerging pathogens and vectors, dental research, gene and cell therapy, health psychology, HIV / STD prevention, immunomodulation, influenza and respiratory pathogens, molecular biology, genomics and sequencing, neuroscience, public health research, and vaccinology

The CIDICS also houses the research institute CIMAT, an independent unit of biostatistics and mathematics, funded by CONACyT. The center has an auditorium for 200 people and meeting rooms for academic and scientific events.
