The Center for Media and Health Communication (ZMGK) is a research facility in Cologne .

It was founded as an association on October 28, 2008 and recognized as a non-profit organization. Association members of the ZMGK are scientists from various universities such as the University of Cologne , the Fresenius University in Cologne and the German Sport University Cologne, as well as practitioners in the field of health communication ( health insurance , market research , public relations , resident doctors ). At the scientific level, experts from the fields of psychology , medicine , medical sociology , curative education and rehabilitation , health economics , media and medical law , health education and sports science are involved .

The aim of the association is to make a contribution to the optimization of health communication with its activities . For this purpose, the projects are implemented in an interdisciplinary manner, as research into media health communication always requires interdisciplinary expertise (with regard to the broadcaster, target group, topic, information to be conveyed, the medium used and its influences, as well as the setting within which communication takes place should) requires. The ZMGK is a member of the health region Cologne-Bonn e. V.

Research priorities

The focus of the work is the research of communication about health, which is done with the help of the media. Conception, implementation and evaluation of health communication are carried out, especially in the areas of: campaign research, cancer communication, health communication and self-help , patient information for informed decision-making, websites on the subject of health, health and prevention in primary school children, innovative technologies at the interface between media and Health economy, media entertainment and health.
