The location of the house follows from history: Zeppelinheim was founded in 1935 as a residential and work settlement for the accommodation of the crew members and the ground staff of the zeppelins on the green meadow. On January 1, 1938, Zeppelinheim became an independent municipality.

The museum is an extension of the community center in Zeppelinheim. The house opened in 1988. The shape of the annex corresponds to a quarter of the cross-section of the Zeppelin LZ 10 .

The museum is jointly funded by the city of Neu-Isenburg and the “Association for Zeppelin Airship eV”.
