German certificate
The internationally recognized examination for the German Certificate was the result of a cooperation between the Goethe Institute , the Austrian Language Diploma for German (ÖSD), the Swiss Conference of Cantonal Education Directors (EDK) and telc GmbH (WBT Weiterbildungs-Testsysteme GmbH).
The German certificate was mainly oriented towards the needs of learners in adult education at home and abroad. Recent developments have made the same exam format available to young learners. As a rule, learners needed around 600 teaching hours to acquire the necessary language skills for a successful examination for the Zertifikat Deutsch . The German certificate is based on the levels of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages , the internationally recognized scale of the Council of Europe .
In 2009, the “Zertifikat Deutsch” and “Start Deutsch 2” exams were replaced by the German test for immigrants .
