Zhang Jiao

Zhang Jiao ( Chinese  張角  /  张角 , Pinyin Zhāng Jiǎo ) or Zhang Jue ( Pinyin Zhāng Jué) was the leader of the Yellow Turban Rebellion at the time of the late Eastern Han Dynasty in China . He is to a grandson of Zhang Daoling have been, founder of Tianshi - sect .

Zhang Jiao was a Daoist . He assumed the title of Great Teacher and led the Yellow Turban Movement with his brothers Zhang Bao and Zhang Liang . His project was called the Heavenly Way or Way of Peace . The Yellow Turbans revolted against the level of taxes imposed by the imperial family and, in 184, launched a revolt that swept across the empire. The Emperor Ling acted swiftly, greatly expanding the powers of the generals and provincial governors. However, this also led to a decentralization of power. Over the next ten years, the uprisings by various generals and warlords were gradually suppressed and their leaders defeated.

Although according to legend, Zhang Jiao also had healing and magic powers , he himself died of an illness.
