Life

LGBT activist Zheng Churan studied sociology in China. At the age of 24 she first came across the term " feminism " at a workshop , which has two different meanings in China: one refers to " law " and " power ", the other to "female studies". As a result, she met Lu Pin and other activists who later became known as the " Feminist Five " at a workshop .

On March 6, 2015, in the run-up to International Women's Day, Zheng Churan was arrested along with four other activists. They had planned public events in several cities in China to call for an end to sexual harassment on public transport. The women's rights activists had printed stickers with the words “Stop sexual harassment, we want security” and “Come on, police, arrest sex offenders!”, Which they wanted to distribute during the events. However, they were accused by the security authorities of "starting an argument and provoking trouble".

Due to a wave of national and international protests involving social media, the five women's rights activists were released on bail on April 13, 2015.
