The Ziegler Paper Mill based in Grellingen in Basel was a Swiss producer of woodfree uncoated papers and specialty papers for graphic applications and industrial processing. The family business is run by the Kuttler-Frey couple. The company was considered the oldest family company in the Swiss paper industry.

history

Ziegler Paper was founded in 1861 by Josef Maria Ziegler-Thoma, with the support of the Grellingen mayor, Bernese Grand Councilor and National Councilor Niklaus Kaiser. In 1923 the limited partnership was converted into a stock corporation, the Albert Ziegler AG paper mill. In 2009 Philipp and Isabel Kuttler-Frey acquired all of the shares from the 5th generation of Ziegler. On the occasion of the 150th anniversary, René L. Frey published the book Papier und wir published by the Neue Zürcher Zeitung publishing house .

On January 12, 2016, the decision to discontinue production was decided and communicated by the management. The paper machines ran for the last time on April 27, and production in the equipment was discontinued at the end of May 2016. The company will continue to operate as a property management company.
