The target acquisition is a military procedure to another person tell an observation so that they locate the intended target itself and can detect. It is used not only in the context of fire control , but also during observations and field meetings.

The method of addressing the target follows the letters of the keyword REHLZ

R ichtung ( relative to the direction of observation or in a clockwise or after terrain baptism )
(E) Visible terrain to the foreground - middle ground - background
E ntfernung always in meters! estimated
H ilfsziel as striking point on the ground, never anything that moves

The recognition of the target by the other person must be confirmed by naming another auxiliary target or a special feature of the target.

Examples ( confirmation of the second observer in italics )

  • Straight ahead, (middle distance), 500, barn, thumb's width to the right of it at the street sign, lying shooter. - white spot on the helmet
  • 3 o'clock, 200, in the thicket, gun. - Above that, yellow flowers
  • Target point 7, twelve lines to the left of it, 8 lines below, dust cloud - moves to the right
  • Two enemy shooters jump left of the isolated tree - right shooter with machine gun
