Zipacna

Zipacná is a figure from the Maya mythology reported in the Popol Vuh , the holy book of the Quiché Maya. He's an earthquake - demon .

Zipacná is the son of Vucub Caquix and Chimalmat and the brother of Cabracan . He is said to be very arrogant and violent. He is depicted as a huge figure, dragging mountains and rocks at night. A group of 400 young men who are incited by the gods to kill him with a ruse, he finally kills himself and hurls them so far into the sky that they leave the earth and in the Pleiades for an opportunity to return to earth waiting. The gods then send the hero brothers Hunahpú and Ixbalanqué , who finally also kill him with a ruse and bury him under a mountain.

  • Zipacna played a role in the television series Stargate SG-1 . He first appeared in the episode "Pretense" in the third season.
  • Zipacna is an infamous monster in Final Fantasy XI at Ve'Lugannon Palace . When defeated, he will drop an item that can be used to summon a sky guardian.
