The Cistercian Convent of San Clemente has been a Cistercian convent in Seville , Spain , since 1248 .
history
In 1248, King Ferdinand el Santo founded the Cistercian convent of San Clemente (after Clement of Rome ) in Seville (on Calle Reposo 9 or at the north end of Calle Santa Clara ). Queen Maria of Portugal and other members of the royal family were buried there. On the occasion of Expo 92 , Abbess Purificación Ballesteros (since 1977) carried out a comprehensive restoration of the monastery and its history. A catalog of the monastery's rich archive material and a library catalog have been published. The church contains works of art by Juan de Valdés Leal and Gaspar Núñez Delgado, the teacher of Juan Martínez Montañés . The convent belongs to the Cistercian Congregation of San Bernardo (CCSB) .
