Quote puzzle

Quote puzzle with a quote from Foppe de Haan

A quote puzzle is a type of puzzle in which a quote is hidden. When completed correctly, the words form a quote from left to right. The quote can come from someone you know. In addition to quotations, proverbs and idioms can also be used. Quote puzzles can also relate to a book or a movie. For single quotation marks, a few letters or punctuation marks have been entered beforehand.

There are also combinations of a quote puzzle with a crossword puzzle or a cryptic crossword puzzle. Here solution letters from the crossword puzzle or the cryptogram can be transferred into the quote puzzle. In geocaching puzzles, coordinates are hidden in a quote puzzle.

The top half of the puzzle consists of columns of letters. These letters should be transferred to the solution fields below. The column letters are sorted alphabetically. The words in the quote are separated by black boxes. There are also variants without these black boxes. A word that is interrupted at the end of a line is continued on the next line. Chart fields that contain punctuation marks or numbers are not filled with letters. When the quote puzzle is filled out, there are no more letters.

Solution strategy

Column letters that have already fallen can be crossed out. To find a start, the following can be used:

  • short columns
  • Columns with double letters
  • short words
  • Words that logically fit into the sentence
  • Adding parts of words
  • Letters that are logically linked to other column letters
  • Links to already solved words
  • Combinations of the above methods.
