Zits

Zits (English for pimples ) is the title of a comic strip by Jerry Scott and Jim Borgman that was started in 1997. It deals with the everyday problems of an American teenager.

Characters

Jeremy Schulze

The main character is 15-year-old Jeremy Schulze (in English Jeremy Duncan ). In his opinion, his parents have no understanding for all the important and “cool” things in life. Not only is his brother older and perfect in everything, he already has the beard that Jeremy doesn't want to sprout. Jeremy is in a band, but they can't decide on their next purchases, microphone or smoke machine, or the band name; mostly it is called "goat cheese pizza".

Lisa

Lisa ( Sara in English ) is mostly Jeremy's girlfriend, even if there are always longer periods of time in the comics when they are separated, always at Lisa's request. Lisa is a year older than Jeremy and already has her driver's license. The shared locker with Jeremy turns out to be problematic.

Roberto

Roberto ( Hector in English ) is Jeremy's best friend, with whom he wants to repair an old VW so that it can drive across the country. Until then they will work as lifeguards, among other things, which Jeremy's mother sees as a good chance to take on responsibility. Jeremy and Roberto see it more as a way to look up girls. He also plays in the band "Ziegenkäsepizza".

Pierce

Pierce is an unusual friend of Jeremy who later joins the band as an excellent drummer. Pierce has piercings all over his body and is able to tell their breakfast from a person's bad breath. He's a good buddy and also shows his sentimental side at times. He is often portrayed as a great animal lover, environmentally conscious and critical of the mainstream. He's with D'Ebo. He also works in the cinema on the side. He is also a member of the band "Ziegenkäsepizza".

The parents

Karin and Hajo ( Conni and Walt in English ) try their best to be good parents, but they find it difficult to live up to Jeremy's standards. He would have preferred them to keep their distance, but his parents want to do something with him every weekend. Hajo is an orthodontist and also treats Lisa and Pierce, Karin is a child psychologist .

Phil

Phil (in English Chad ) is the four years older brother of Jeremy. He's perfect in college and from the point of view of Jeremy's parents. It is pimple-free and always has a grade average of 1.0. He also plays basketball perfectly and is president of the student parliament. Everyone believes that one day he will be successful.

D'Ebo

D'Ebo is a friend of Lisa's. She explains the special spelling of her name by saying that it looks more interesting than Debo. She is with Pierce, although she regularly disgusts his special talents and ideas. Sometimes she seems to be the only one who understands them.

publication

The comic strip appeared in over 200 American newspapers from 1997 and is distributed by the King Features Syndicate . The strips now appear in over 1500 newspapers worldwide and are translated into Spanish, Portuguese, Finnish and Chinese, among others.

The comic strip is also available in German. The translation of the American series is inconsistent in terms of names and locations. Some of them were Germanized, but sometimes not.

In addition, twelve anthologies have been published in the USA, each with strips of one year. Ten of the volumes have been published in German by Achterbahn Verlag .
