Civil defense in El Salvador

The Civil Defense in El Salvador is the state's national organization Sistema Nacional de Protección Civil, Prevención y de Mitigación Disasters of El Salvador (German: civil protection, prevention and mitigation of El Salvador) regulated. It was founded on August 31, 2005 to coordinate rescue measures nationwide in the event of a disaster.

history

Department of Civil Protection

Previously, civil protection (Spanish: Protección Civil El Salvador ) was organized in the 14 departments of El Salvador. These regions have been united under the umbrella organization since 2005.

The Directorate General for Disaster Management and Disaster Prevention in El Salvador is also part of the Central American network of government agencies for protection against natural disasters in Central America (Sistema de la Integración Centroamericana, SICA for short). The Coordination Office for Natural Disaster Prevention in Central America (CEPREDENAC) is regulated by the 2005 Agreement. Member states have been El Salvador, Panama , Guatemala and Honduras since 2005, and Costa Rica signed the Coordinación para la Prevención de los Desastres Naturales en América Central (CEPREDENAC) agreement in 2007 .

Jorge Antonio Meléndez is the general manager.

Emergency call

The following central telephone numbers have been set up to report an emergency: 2281-0888 and 2201-2424 direct number for the Centro de Operaciones de Emergencia or via 911 and 913 free emergency numbers for the population.

The Club de Radio Aficionados de El Salvador with its network for emergency communication in the event of disasters in El Salvador occupies a special position within the civil protection of El Salvador . El Salvador is prone to natural disasters, especially earthquakes, and the CRAS is the basis for coordinating aid in cases where conventional communication no longer works.

The organization Cruz Roja Salvadoreña is involved in civil defense .

Publications

The Dirección General de Protección Civil continuously publishes the current situation in El Salvador through press articles, radio, television or online services, such as:

  • Severe weather warnings nationwide or only related to regions
    • Rain (heavy rain with risk of flooding)
    • Coastal event (storm surges)
    • Storm warnings 24 hour forecast
  • Earthquakes and volcanic activity.
