The Zoea or Zoealarve ( Greek zoon "animal", "living being") is a larval form of the crustaceans (Crustacea), which usually follows the stage of the nauplius larva . It is found in most decapods (Decapoda), here the zoea hatches directly from the egg.

description

The zoea is divided into cephalothorax (head-chest piece) and pleon (abdomen) and, in contrast to the nauplius, which has only one unpaired eye ( nauplius eye ), has a pair of complex eyes . The cephalothorax has several pairs of split legs .

development

The growth takes place through teloblastia , so the number of body segments is increased. With each moult, the segments are attached to the front, starting from the telson bud (the last section of the abdomen).
