The Zollkriminalinstitut (ZKI) was from 1952 to 1992 the predecessor of today's Zollkriminalamt (ZKA).

historical development

In 1949 the Central Customs Intelligence Service was established in Frankfurt am Main . Two years later, the Customs Criminal Science Laboratory was founded at the Customs Technical Examination and Training Institute (ZPLA) in Cologne and merged with the Central Customs Message Center to form the Customs Criminal Science Department at the ZPLA Cologne.

In 1952 the Customs Criminal Investigation Institute (ZKI) was founded as the successor to the Customs Criminal Science Department and expanded in 1958 based on the model of the Federal Criminal Police Office (BKA).

In July 1992, the Customs Criminal Police Office (ZKA) was finally founded as the successor to the Customs Criminal Police Institute.
