Kathmandu Zoo

The Kathmandu Zoo or Patan Central Zoo is the only zoo in Nepal . It is located in the southwest part of the Patan district in Kathmandu . It was founded in 1932 and 1956 and opened to the public. The zoo is home to around 700 species, including over 100 species of birds. The two life-size statues on the park grounds represent the mother and sister-in-law of the zoo founder (Juddha Shumsher Jang Bahadur Rana).

The zoo's pond was created in the 17th century on the instructions of King Siddhi Narsingh Malla and can be accessed by boat.

Management has been the responsibility of the King Mahendra Trust for Nature Conservation since 1995 . In 2003 parts of the facility were extensively restored. The entrance area was z. B. redesigned and a new gibbon enclosure was created.
