The Zoo Ljubljana is founded in 1949 urban zoo in the Slovenian capital Ljubljana .

The zoo is located in a forest about two kilometers from the city center. The area of 20 hectares is on a slope, the paths in the zoo have a gradient of up to 20%. The upper part of the zoo, which can only be reached via the steep paths, is under renovation (as of 2018) and is therefore partially not accessible. In this part of the zoo, according to the zoo's plan, there are enclosures for eagle owls, elk, reindeer, mouflon and griffon vulture.

In the lower flat part there are enclosures for animals from Africa (giraffe, ostrich, zebra), Asia (elephant, trample, red panda), South America (guanaco, mara, rhea) and Australia (wallaby, emu). Immediately behind the entrance is a Slovenian farm with domestic animals from the region, next to it are the enclosures for squirrel monkeys, meerkats and California sea lions. Tiger, leopard, cheetah and chimpanzees are housed in the transition to the slope. You can see brown bears, wolves, lynxes and ibexes uphill.

According to the inventory of December 31, 2015, the zoo houses around four hundred mammals, birds and reptiles from 88 species. Insects can also be seen in the farm, the number of which significantly exceeds the number of larger animals.

The zoo can be reached with a city bus line. The annual number of visitors is 300,000.
