Zorrilla (Cuba)

Zorrilla is a village in the east of the Municipios Los Arabos in the Matanzas Province in Cuba .

The place has 1204 inhabitants, who are spread over an area of ​​39.5 km², and has a clear Afro-Cuban influence. There used to be a slave market here. The municipality is bordered by Israel Ruiz to the north, Los Arabos to the south, San Pedro de Mayabón to the east and Macagua to the west . The municipality is flat. There is fruit growing, forest and palm trees.

The annual average temperatures are 24 ° C with minima and maxima of 13 and 34 ° C, respectively. Annual rainfall is around 1400–1500 mm, with a dry season from November to April (200–250 mm) and a rainy season from May to October (1200–1300 mm). The soils are stony with partially productive black earth .

Precious woods such as mahogany and cedar as well as pear apple , acacia, carob tree and, to this day, plenty of pine grow in the forests . Often one finds the flame tree and the calabash tree , to a lesser extent poplars, some ceibas and the royal palm . Important fruit trees are guava and mango . Pineapples and bananas are grown in various areas, as well as sweet potatoes , cassava , corn and tomatoes. However, the cultivation of sugar cane and tobacco predominates .

In the animal world there are the tomeguín de la tierra , the mockingbird , the canary pigeon and some species of migratory birds.
