Zosimos (martyr)

Zosimos ( ancient Greek Ζωσιμος ; † 110 in Conana in Pisidia ) was a martyr and saint .

The Legend According to Zosimos was a soldier who refused to bear arms and took refuge in a church. He also refused to sacrifice to the Roman gods. Therefore , charges were brought against Domitian, the governor of the Emperor Trajan in Pisidia, against Zosimos, who was then cruelly beaten, then hung up, burned and finally thrown onto a red-hot grate without harming him. Afterwards, he was tied to horses with shoes pierced by sharp nails, which he had to follow a long distance to Conana, where he was left without food or drink for three days. However, since he stuck to his belief, he was finally beheaded.

Zosimos was venerated as a saint, his feast day is June 19th .
