Train length counter

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A train length counter (also train length indicator , train length counter or train length meter ) is an auxiliary system of some locomotives to indicate to the driver the point at which the end of his train has passed the point at which the driver operated the train length counter. Among other things, he can find out the end of the subsequent turnout area without having to pay attention to the hectometer boards .

The system uses the entered train data (train length) for the PZB or LZB and measures the distance covered. After the entire length of the train has been covered, the driver is informed acoustically. In some series, the sound is similar to a meep-meep and is therefore colloquially called a “ roadrunner ”.
