The Gasthaus zum Trauben is located on Rathausplatz in the town of Weinfelden in the Swiss canton of Thurgau .

history

The building was built in 1649 as the ruler's tavern with a small tithe house. In the 19th century the hall wing was built in place of the tithe house. The building is one of the cultural assets of Weinfelden and is also listed as an A object in the Swiss inventory of cultural assets of national importance.

Until 1798 the Thurgau court rulers met annually in the Gasthaus Zum Trauben. The judges' room is on the 1st floor. The district captains of the eight Thurgau military quarters always met in Weinfelden from 1619 under the chairmanship of the Zurich Obervogts in Weinfelden. Paul Reinhart proclaimed the freedom of Thurgau in 1798 on the stairs of the Gasthaus zum Trauben on Rathausplatz. In 1959 it was saved from threatened demolition. Since 1981 it has been owned by the civil parish.
