Zuqar ( Arabic جزيرة زقر, DMG Ǧazīrat Zuqar ) is the largest of the Hanisch Islands , which belong to Yemen , and is located in the north of the archipelago. Located in the Red Sea , the island is close to the Bab el-Mandeb strait , which connects the Red Sea with the Gulf of Aden . Despite its proximity to Africa , Zuqar is part of Asia as it is located on the Asian continental shelf .

There have long been differences between Yemen and Eritrea about the political affiliation of the island . It was not until 1996 that the dispute over Zuqar was settled after the Hanish Islands conflict had ended. Since then the island has belonged to Yemen.

The area of the island is 100 km², according to other information 120 km².
