Zvi Bodie

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Zvi Bodie (* 1943) is an economist at Boston University .

Bodie, together with William F. Samuelson (son of Paul Samuelson ) and Robert C. Merton, solved the modern consumer-investment problem for portfolio selection involving the labor supply: Younger investors can only take more risk because they have more opportunities to do it to compensate for longer and / or more intensive work. He denies the claim that stocks become less risky the longer the investment horizon is, using arguments drawn from option price theory.

Bodie criticizes what he calls the “Markowitz paradigm” of risk-return optimization (see also CAPM ) and advocates the “Merton paradigm” as an alternative.

Bodie advocates a conservative investment style, criticizes the use of risky investments in state and company pensions, describes the tendency of the financial industry to sell its risks to consumers via financial products as a fraud and sympathizes with the idea of narrow banking as a way of avoiding banking crises.

Together with Alex Kane and Alan J. Marcus , he wrote the textbook Investments .
