The Two-color Schmalbauchrüssler ( Phyllobius oblongus ) is a beetle from the family of weevils and the subfamily Entiminae .

features

The weevils reach a length of 3–6 mm. The head and pronotum are black. The wing covers , antennae and legs are colored light brown. The head, pronotum and elytra are covered with light hair. There is a strong thorn on each femora .

distribution

The species occurs in the Palearctic . It is widespread and common in Europe. It occurs in the north of the British Isles and Fennoscandinavia . In the south the distribution area extends to North Africa, in the east to Siberia. The beetle species was introduced to North America in 1923. There it is now represented in the northeast of the USA and in eastern Canada as well as in British Columbia .

Way of life

The polyphagous beetles can be found on trees and bushes, especially on oak, beech, elm, linden, maple and fruit trees, where they feed on leaves and buds. The beetles fly from May to July. The larvae feed on the roots of dead nettle, sorrel and grass. The species overwinters as a larva.
