The dwarf Italian is a breed of chicken.

Around 1900 there are said to have been dwarf Italians in Germany in the partridge-colored breed. The Italian breed is considered to be large .

Racial history

The breed was imported from Great Britain around 1920. Schumann, Gotha, showed animals in the correct dwarf size for the first time. The roosters were the color of partridge, the hen gold. At the same time there were whites from O. Bartsch, Berlin. Was bred again in 1956 by R. Ernst and L. Höner. Schwarz 1919 by O. Bartsch, initially only in rose-combed. Silver-colored and blue ones in 1924, striped and orange-colored ones in 1935. Porcelain-colored ones were bred again from 1975 at E. Imberger, Frielendorf.

Shape and head

Long, slim cylinder shape with flowing lines. Full chest and shoulders, rounded belly. Posture as horizontal as possible. Well-covered cock's tail, slightly ascending. The base of the hen's tail is also quite broad. The long back rises slightly in the saddle. Thighs still visible, medium high legs. Two comb variants: standing comb with surrounding flag for the hen; rose-combed, finely pearled, narrowing towards the back with a lowered, non-resting thorn. Not too long wattles, white ear discs, red eyes.
