Zwinglians

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

From 1523 onwards, followers of the teachings of Ulrich Zwingli from Zurich referred to themselves as Zwinglians . Zwinglians are mostly German-speaking humanist Protestants who differ slightly from the Protestant teachings of Martin Luther in Germany and Calvin's in Geneva and France . From 1549, through the Consensus Tigurinus, there was an agreement between the Zwinglians and Calvinists on the Lord's Supper . However, with the Anabaptists, who were initially persecuted very hard by the Zwinglians (who developed themselves in the Zwingli area), the unification and reconciliation lasted much longer. The Swiss Mennonites were persecuted and driven out into the 18th century. The Evangelical Reformed Church of the Canton of Zurich and the City of Zurich recognized the injustice of persecution in June 2004.
