Abarqu cypress
The Abarqu cypress or Abar Kuh ( Persian سرو ابرکوه Sarv-e Abar cow ) is a 4,000 to 4,500 year old cypress tree in the city of Abarkuh in the Iranian province of Yazd . It measures 25 meters in height and the circumference of its trunk is 11.5 meters. According to a legend, the tree was planted by the religious founder Zarathustra .
The cypress tree is a widespread symbol in Iranian art and culture. It stands for sincerity , truthfulness and eternal youth . Another culturally significant cypress in the country is the Kashmar cypress .
The Abarqu cypress has been proposed for the World Heritage List .
