1000 km race from Zeltweg 1976

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
BMW 3.5 CSL ; Winning car from Dieter Quester and Gunnar Nilsson

The eighth 1000 km race in Zeltweg , also Martha 1000, Zeltweg 6 Hours, Österreichring , took place on June 27, 1976 at the Österreichring and was the eighth race of the sports car world championship of that year.

The race

In 1976 the last 1000 km race from Zeltweg took place on the Österreichring. A long-distance race has been held here as part of the sports car world championship since the racetrack opened in 1969 . The racetrack has also been the home of the Austrian Grand Prix since 1970 .

After the success in the 1000 km race at the Nürburgring , the Schnitzer - BMW 3.5 CSL also won at the Österreichring. This time Dieter Quester's teammate was the Swedish Formula 1 driver Gunnar Nilsson . The best Porsche at the finish was the 934 driven by Claude Haldi and Peter Zbinden in third place in the overall ranking. Again, the debut of the factory - Group 5 - Lancia Stratos failed . A car fire during training destroyed the emergency vehicle.
