Abbie Cornish (born August 7, 1982 in Lochinvar , New South Wales ) is an Australian actress .

life and career

After her first successful roles in Australian television series , Cornish received the Australian Film Institute Award in 1999 for her role as Simone Summers in the ABC series Wildside . She made her cinema debut in 2000 in the movie The Monkey's Mask by Samantha Lang .

Cornish caught a wider audience outside of Australia with her critically acclaimed performance in Cate Shortland (director and screenplay) Somersault . In Somersault she played a leading role for the first time. The Australian Film Institute (AFI) awarded the film with 13 "Australian filmoscars" a. a. in the most important categories Best Director , Best Actress , Best Actor and Best Screenplay . The Film Critics Circle of Australia (FCCA) also presented the film with awards. Somersault celebrated in May 2004 on the film festival in Cannes in the series Un Certain Regard premiere. Her second leading role was opposite Heath Ledger in a drug drama called Candy directed by Neil Armfield . The film was shown in competition at the Berlinale 2006 . In addition to Russell Crowe as Max Skinner , she acted in Ridley Scott's summer comedy A Good Year (2006) as his cousin Christie .

Cornish has been in a relationship with fellow American actor Ryan Phillippe since filming Stop-Loss . In late February 2010, the couple announced their separation.
