Career

Alexander Kerfoot was born in Vancouver and played there in his youth for the Vancouver NorthWest Giants . In 2011 he moved to the Coquitlam Express in the second-rate British Columbia Hockey League (BCHL), although he could also have played in the higher-class Western Hockey League with the Seattle Thunderbirds , who had selected him in the 2009 WHL Bantam Draft . In his first full BCHL season, the attacker scored 69 points in 51 games and was consequently appointed to the BCHL First All-Star Team . Then chose him New Jersey Devils in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft at the 150th position, before he missed much of the 2012/13 season due to a shoulder injury.

In the fall of 2013, Kerfoot enrolled at Harvard University and began studying economics there while running for the university's ice hockey team, the Harvard Crimson . In the team, the center established itself at the latest as a sophomore as a regular scorer and won the championship of the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC), a conference within the game operations of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) , with the Crimson in this 2014/15 season . In 2016 he was appointed to the ECAC Third All-Star Team , before the Canadian celebrated another ECAC championship with the Crimson at the end of the 2016/17 season. He was also one of ten finalists for the Hobey Baker Memorial Award , which honors the best college player in the entire United States. This year, however, the trophy went to Will Butcher .

After four years and a degree, Kerfoot left Harvard University in 2017. The player rights acquired by the New Jersey Devils in the NHL Entry Draft had already expired, so he was now allowed to negotiate with all franchises , where he was next to Will Butcher was considered one of the most sought-after college free agents . The Colorado Avalanche and the Vancouver Canucks from his hometown showed increased interest , with Kerfoot finally opting for the Avalanche and signing a corresponding entry-level contract there in August 2017 . In the pre-season that followed, the attacker earned a place in the Avalanche's NHL squad and finally made his debut in the National Hockey League (NHL) in October 2017 . During his first NHL season he scored 43 points scorer in 79 games, which he followed in his second year with 42 points, an almost identical value.

Despite the striker's development, the Avalanche parted ways with him in July 2019 when his contract rights were transferred to the Toronto Maple Leafs along with Tyson Barrie and a six- round suffrage in the 2020 NHL Entry Draft . In return, Nazem Kadri , Calle Rosén and a third-round suffrage in the same draft moved to Denver for the Avalanche. A little later, the Leafs announced that they had given Kerfoot a four-year contract that should earn him an average annual salary of $ 3.5 million.
