Anders Bardal (born August 24, 1982 in Steinkjer ) is a former Norwegian ski jumper who jumped for the ski club in Steinkjer. At the Nordic World Ski Championships in 2013 in Val di Fiemme , he was world champion on the normal hill.

Career

Bardal, who had won the silver medal in team jumping at the Junior World Championships in Štrbské Pleso, Slovakia with the Norwegian selection, made his debut in the World Cup in February 2001 in Willingen . In 2005, Anders Bardal criticized that he was not nominated for the Four Hills Tournament . He had his first podium in the 2006/07 season when he finished third in Oslo . Until his first World Cup victory on January 27, 2008 in Zakopane , his best individual result was a second place at the Four Hills Tournament 2007/08 in Bischofshofen . He was also able to achieve second place at the 2006 Summer Grand Prix in Oberhof .

At the Nordic World Ski Championships in Sapporo in 2007 , he won the silver medal in team jumping on the large hill together with Tom Hilde , Anders Jacobsen and Roar Ljøkelsøy .

At the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver , he reached 18th place in jumping from the normal hill. With the team he won the bronze medal in team competition.

At the end of March 2011, Anders Bardal secured the Norwegian championship title on the normal hill in Steinkjer.

At the Four Hills Tournament 2011/12 he reached fourth place and thus his best placement in this competition series to date. With his victory at the World Cup on February 12, 2012 in Willingen , he secured the yellow jersey of the leader in the overall World Cup for the first time in his career. He managed to defend the lead in the overall World Cup until the end of the season and win it for the first time in his career. He is the first Norwegian overall World Cup winner since Espen Bredesen in the 1993/94 season . In the subsequent Ski King election by sports journalists, Bardal came third behind cross-country skiers Dario Cologna and Marit Bjørgen . At the Nordic World Ski Championships 2013 in Val di Fiemme, he won gold from Gregor Schlierenzauer and Peter Prevc when jumping from the normal hill. In September of that year he achieved his first two Grand Prix victories in Nizhny Tagil and Almaty . In this summer series, he finished third at the end of the season.

On February 9, he won bronze at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi on the normal hill behind Kamil Stoch and Peter Prevc . A year later, Bardal won the silver medal in the mixed competition on the small hill at the Nordic World Ski Championships in Falun together with Line Jahr , Maren Lundby and Rune Velta . In the team competition on the large hill, he won the gold medal together with Anders Jacobsen , Anders Fannemel and Rune Velta.

After a mixed World Cup season in 2014/15 , Anders Bardal stated before the traditional final competition in Planica that he would no longer participate there and would end his active career. Accordingly, his last competition took place in his home country Norway at Holmenkollen . As reasons for his resignation, Bardal gave a lack of motivation and the desire to spend more time with his family.

In addition to Norwegian, Anders Bardal also speaks English and German and is the father of a daughter.
