Artur Wichniarek [ ˈartur vixˈɲarɛk ] (born February 28, 1977 in Poznan ) is a former Polish football player .

Career

society

The offensive all-rounder played in the Polish league at Lech Posen (1993-1996) and Widzew Lodz (1996-1999), until the then DSC scout Arminia Bielefeld Gerd Roggensack recognized his talent and convinced him to move to the Bundesliga. After initial acclimatization problems with his new club, Wichniarek developed into a regular player. According to his own statement, after the relegation of Arminia, the way of playing in the 2nd Bundesliga suited him. He was the top scorer twice in a row; In 2000/01 he scored 18 goals, in 2001/02 he contributed 20 goals to promotion to the Bundesliga . There he could not prevent the direct relegation despite his twelve goals this season.

With his 50 goals in the three previous seasons, Hertha BSC noticed him and signed him for the 2003/04 season . In the German capital, however, Wichniarek was never able to assert himself and only made occasional short assignments. After there were still conflicts about a lack of hand money on the part of the association, they finally agreed on a termination agreement after agreeing a severance payment in favor of Wichniarek.

In January 2006 he returned to Arminia Bielefeld and after renewed teething problems at the beginning of the 2006/07 season he became a regular for the next three years. On the penultimate matchday he scored the 60th goal for Arminia Bielefeld. On November 17, 2008 Wichniarek extended his contract prematurely until 2011. The contract was valid for both the first and the second Bundesliga. On December 15, 2007, Wichniarek scored his 29th Bundesliga goal for Arminia. He replaced Frank Pagelsdorf (28 goals) as the club's record scorer in the Bundesliga . In the 2008/09 season he scored thirteen goals, which did not prevent relegation.

On July 3, 2009 it was announced that Wichniarek would move back to Hertha BSC. His contract ran until June 30, 2010 with an option until 2012. In his 19 season appearances, the Pole failed to score; only in the Europa League had he met once. At the end of the year Hertha rose from bottom of the table. Wichniarek took this as an opportunity to return to his Polish club Lech Posen, as Hertha BSC did not offer him a contract for the 2nd division.

On November 4, 2010, the contract between Wichniarek and Lech Posen, for which he completed 7 games without a goal in the 2010/11 season , was dissolved.

On January 10, 2011, Wichniarek agreed with FC Ingolstadt 04 on a change. After the end of the 2010/11 season , he finally ended his playing career and then worked as a consultant. He also returned to Poznan to take over the management of a bakery branch.

National team

Wichniarek came to 17 appearances in the Polish national football team between 1999 and 2008 , scoring four goals. On January 16, 2008 Wichniarek received after four years of absence again an invitation to an international match between Poland and the Czech Republic, where he celebrated his comeback. In September 2008, Artur Wichniarek announced his temporary resignation from the national team after another disregard by the then national coach Leo Beenhakker , despite very good performances in the Bundesliga. Back in 1993, Wichniarek was part of the Polish squad at the U-17 World Cup in Japan when Poland finished fourth.
