The Bonn-Bad Godesberg train station is a train station on the left bank of the Rhine in the Bad Godesberg district of the federal city of Bonn .
history
It was inaugurated as Godesberg station on October 15, 1855 as part of the extension of the Rhine route from Bonn to Rolandseck as the station of the village of Godesberg. The fact that the summer houses of numerous shareholders of the Bonn-Cölner Eisenbahn-Gesellschaft and the President of the Rheinische Eisenbahn-Gesellschaft were located in Godesberg was said to have played a major role in the fact that Godesberg was given a train station at all, which was then in the open . For years, the shareholders had their regulars' table in the station restaurant and insisted that almost all trains stop in Godesberg.
From the turn of the century Godesberg grew strongly and established itself as a health resort and retirement home for Prussian pensioners, which also increased the importance of the station. The old classicist reception building was too small and therefore replaced in 1908 by the Art Nouveau building that still exists today and is largely preserved inside , which is located a little south of the old train station; It was put into operation on April 30, 1908. At the same time, the route of the railway line was raised by about one meter and the Friedrichallee , Rheinallee and Bürgerstraße underpasses were created. When Godesberg was awarded the title " Bad " in 1925 , the name of the station was changed to Bad Godesberg . After the city was incorporated into Bonn in 1969, the station was renamed again for the 1971 summer timetable and received its current name Bonn-Bad Godesberg . As a result, the importance of the station for long-distance traffic decreased, in the mid- 1980s a D-train stopped for the last time in Bonn-Bad Godesberg. At the beginning of the 1990s , the station gained further importance for long-distance traffic, when initially individual InterCityNight and later InterCityExpress trains on the Bonn– Berlin line started in Bad Godesberg. One example was the ICE 559 from Bonn-Bad Godesberg to Berlin-Gesundbrunnen (2018).
Following preparatory work that began in December 2014, the station will be modernized and refurbished from April 2015 until probably spring 2020. The measure, the beginning and execution of which has been delayed several times, includes the complete renovation of the pedestrian underpass and the installation of three elevators and, according to the latest information, costs eight million euros. In the course of the construction work, part of the platform roofing was demolished in place of the newly installed elevators.
The work was largely completed in August 2019, and the elevators have been in operation since February 2019. Remaining work will not be completed until 2020.
construction
The Bad Godesberg train station is a four-track through station that does not have a house platform . Instead, an island platform is arranged between the two through and passing tracks . The platforms have the numbering 1/4 (direction Koblenz) and 2/3 (direction Bonn) , which is unusual in Germany but occurs several times on the left Rhine route . The interlocking, a relay interlocking from Siemens with H / V light signals , is at the south end of the station. The interlocking area also includes the Bad Godesberg Nord (formerly freight yard), Bonn-Mehlem and Bonn Neuer Weg stations. Because of the unambiguous assignment required, the platform tracks in Bad Godesberg are numbered 21 to 24. There are no switch connections between the main tracks in Bonn-Bad Godesberg station. The closest are in the neighboring train stations Bonn-Mehlem and Bad Godesberg Nord. The track is indeed for the way working equipped, but routes for travel in opposite track only exist on the edge of tracks 23 and 24. The station building stands as a monument under monument protection .
business
The regular regional trains go south on platform 1 ( Koblenz Hbf and on to Mainz Hbf ). Regional trains run north on platform 2 ( Bonn Hbf and on to Cologne ). Tracks 3 and 4 are only used as stabling tracks and as passing tracks .
Todays situation
Since 1994, the Bad Godesberg Bahnhof stop of the Bonn light rail has been located under the station .
Today the station is a regional express and regional train stop and is served by a total of four lines every hour, so that there is an approximate 15-minute cycle to and from Bonn main station . The station has continues to have a busy tourist center of Deutsche Bahn and some small shops that have been laid for remodeling temporarily in containers on the former North West Park Place. In 2008 the former sound station located in the station building resumed operations as a music venue (excluding catering).
Station forecourt
As part of an extensive redesign, the former Moltkestrasse street section in front of the station building was cordoned off on one side in 2003, taxi stands were set up and the entire area, including the tourist information and green spaces, was renamed Ria-Maternus- Platz . After a first feasibility study (2004) and a subsequent call for tenders, a total of 53 architectural offices applied for the project “Initiative Ria-Maternus-Platzhaben” within the state competition City makes space - NRW makes space . Since the award of the four best proposals in June 2005, there has been no further concrete implementation of the submitted models.
