The Andernach Station is the transportation hub of the city Andernach . It has four passenger tracks (through tracks 1, 2 and 3 and head track 24), three of which are more than 400 meters long, as well as stabling and freight tracks. It is on the left side of the Rhine and is the end of the Eifelquerbahn . In addition to passenger traffic, there is also container and freight traffic , which is handled in the freight station to the east behind the station . From there lead sidings to Rhine Port Andernach and company Rasselstein .

There is a bus station on the station forecourt , which is served by all city bus routes and the regional bus routes to Mayen , Neuwied and Ochtendung . Only the regional bus line to Maria Laach stops 50 meters from the bus station on "Breite Straße".

history

Andernach received a rail connection on August 15, 1858 on the line from Oberwinter to Weißenthurm . The concession was held by the Rheinische Eisenbahn-Gesellschaft . Then on November 11, 1858, the first train drove over the left Rhine route. A year later the line was extended to Bingerbrück .

On April 1, 1878, the line from Andernach to Niedermendig was opened for freight traffic and on May 15 for passenger traffic. The client was the Rheinische Eisenbahn-Gesellschaft . The 2.33 kilometer long freight line to the Rheinwerft was opened for freight traffic on September 20, 1879 .

In 1911 a new station building was completed after the track had previously been raised with the construction of railway underpasses . On January 1, 1945, the station was largely destroyed by a bomb attack. Only the restaurant wing with residential floors remained intact. In 1956, a new counter hall was built, the facade of which was increased for urban planning reasons so that the old building at the back optically disappeared behind it.

All passenger / local and express trains as well as some D-trains stopped in Andernach , while most high-quality passenger trains ran through without stopping.

The summer timetable 1979 held with the IC 564/565 Burggraf Munich  - Würzburg  - Frankfurt  - Mainz  - Koblenz  - Bonn  - Cologne for the first time an intercity scheduled in Andernach, albeit in off position (6:25 Munich, 23:30 direction Cologne).

The timetable change in the summer of 1991 brought a significant improvement . As a forerunner of the Interregio system, Andernach was served by two D-Zug lines ( Norddeich - Heidelberg , Münster - Saarbrücken / Luxembourg ) that ran every two hours , so that every day from just before 7am to shortly Before 10 p.m. there was an hourly express train to Cologne and Koblenz (32 long-distance train stops per day). In 1993 and 1994 the express train lines were converted into InterRegio lines. From 1999 the DB began to thin out the InterRegio network, trains in peripheral locations were canceled and in the north the trains ended again in Münster or Norddeich. With the 2002/2003 timetable change on December 15, 2002, the InterRegio lines were replaced by Intercity lines. The number of long-distance stops in Andernach fell slightly from 29 to 31 to 24 to 25.

During the 2006 summer schedule, the ICE 1524 Frankfurt– Berlin was the first time an Intercity Express stopped in Andernach as scheduled, but was replaced by an Intercity Frankfurt – Hamburg in the 2007 annual schedule. Since the 2008 annual schedule, individual trains on the ICE line 10 Berlin – Koblenz have stopped in Andernach since the 2017 annual schedule.

For the annual timetable for 2006 and 2012, the railway thinned the long-distance services between Cologne and Trier by first and then two more train pairs until it was completely discontinued for the 2015 annual timetable between Koblenz and Trier. As a result, the number of long-distance stops in Andernach fell to 12 (Saturdays) to 21 (Fridays). From the 2018 annual timetable, there will again be a daily pair of trains between Düsseldorf and Luxembourg.

In 2010 and 2011, Andernach train station was modernized. In order to make the station more accessible , two elevators were installed so that all platforms can now be reached without stairs . The platforms were also equipped with a guidance system for the blind . The modernization measures cost one million euros, which were paid for from the federal economic stimulus program. In 2013, the station forecourt was redesigned with the bus station. Further modernizations should follow by the end of 2016, then the date was postponed to 2018. Construction work is now expected to begin in September 2019 and be completed by the end of December 2020. The platforms are to be brought to a height of 76 centimeters above the top of the rails, even away from the platform roof, and excess lengths are to be broken off. In addition, the lighting is to be renewed, the pedestrian tunnel and the platform roofs are to be refurbished, and access from the Breite Straße parking lot to platform 1 is to be built. The renovation costs should amount to around 3.4 million euros. The platform on track 1 is to be moved 105 meters towards the south. The platform on track 2 is to be shortened by 60 meters to 370 meters. Track 24 is to be moved to the north by these 60 meters and thus closer to the exit. The platform of tracks 3 and 24 will be shortened by 100 meters in the south. Both platforms are to receive a weather protection house, the missing train destination indicator is to be retrofitted for track 24.

Track 1 and 2 then have a usable length of 370 meters at a nominal height of 76 cm above the top edge of the rail, track 3 of 270 meters at a nominal height of 76 cm above the top edge of the rail and a further 100 meters at 55 cm above the top edge of the rail and track 24 at a usable length of 115 Meters (overall length of 129 meters) at 55 cm above the top edge of the rail. The corresponding planning approval decision of the Federal Railway Authority was issued on September 28, 2017.

Furnishing

Andernach train station has a house platform and a central platform with a stub track. A regional express line (RE) and several regional train lines (RB) stop in Andernach for local rail passenger transport . The trains reach Wesel in the north, Limburg an der Lahn in the east, Mainz in the south and Kaisersesch in the west .

The 2015 Rhineland-Palatinate cycle originally envisaged an extension of the former Pellenz-Eifel Railway (RB 92) west to Gerolstein , but this was not implemented.

The Germany cycle as part of the Federal Transport Infrastructure Plan 2030 provides for two long-distance train lines running every two hours, each with eight daily train pairs, for Andernach: In addition to an IC line from Norddeich Mole via Münster, Düsseldorf, Cologne and Koblenz to Luxembourg (today's IC lines 35 and 37) the expert draft of October 2018 now provides for an ICE line from Berlin via Hanover, Hamm, Wuppertal, Cologne, Koblenz and Mainz to Frankfurt (today's ICE line 10), after earlier drafts first an ICE line from Stralsund via Hamburg, Dortmund, Cologne and Mannheim to Stuttgart and then an ICE line from Cologne via Koblenz, Frankfurt and Nuremberg to Vienna.

In local traffic between Cologne and Koblenz, the Rhein-Ruhr-Express is to replace the Middle Rhine Railway with the RRX 4 line from Bielefeld via Dortmund and Cologne to Koblenz, and the Rhein-Express with the RRX 6 line from Minden to Koblenz, providing an approximate half-hourly service between Cologne and Koblenz. It is currently being examined whether the RRX 4 line will replace the Middle Rhine Railway or whether the second RRX line, which is assumed in the Federal Transport Infrastructure Plan, can be operationally integrated while maintaining the Middle Rhine Railway. In the expert draft of October 2018, it is proposed that the Mittelrheinbahn only run between Remagen and Mainz and that RRX line 4 from Remagen to Ahrbrück instead of Koblenz, which the regional association for local rail passenger transport Rhineland-Palatinate North considers unrealistic.
