The Solingen Hauptbahnhof is the main railway station of the Bergisch city Solingen . The crossing station was called Solingen-Ohligs until 2006 .
10,000 travelers and visitors as well as 83 arrivals and departures per day are counted at the station.
History since 1867
When they wanted to build a railway line between Haan-Gruiten and Cologne-Deutz in the 1860s , an optimal route was only possible through the Ohlig court. At that time, the Ohlig court belonged to the district of Solingen . An unused wasteland belonging to the Ohlig court was chosen as the station location.
The new station was opened with the commissioning of the Gruiten – Deutz railway line on September 25, 1867 and was initially called Ohligs-Wald station. Today's main station was also the first station in the Solingen city area. The opening of the train station in 1867 on the well-frequented route and the associated use of external workers caused an enormous economic boom in the former small court of Ohlig. A branch line to Solingen-Mitte was also built from the Ohligs-Wald train station in the year it was built. In 1890 the addition of the forest name was dropped because the district of Wald received its own train station. In 1894, a third connection was added with the then new Düsseldorf – Ohligs line, which ultimately made the station a junction station . With the incorporation of Ohligs into Solingen, the station was named Solingen-Ohligs in 1929 . The badly battered old Ohligser Bahnhof was demolished in 1967 and replaced by a modern, simple new building in the same place.
The importance of the Ohligs train station to traffic has always exceeded that of the other train stations in Solingen and also that of the old main train station, as only the Ohligser train station is on a long-distance line and has been a stop for long-distance traffic since 1979. In addition, it is the junction of all Solingen railway lines and is the only station served by all regional trains in Solingen. For this reason, there were several discussions about calling it Solingen Hauptbahnhof and renaming the old Hauptbahnhof accordingly. However, these discussions did not come to a conclusion for a long time, which is why the station kept its name until the end of 2006. With the closure of the old main train station in May 2006, however, the discussions were heated up again and with the timetable change on December 10, 2006, the station was finally named Solingen Hauptbahnhof . In this context, the station forecourt was redesigned from 2007 to 2009 and the taxi stand was relocated by 50 meters to enable direct access to the upper Düsseldorfer Straße.
location
The main station is in the west of the city of blades in the district of Ohligs. From Ohligs is:
- the Cologne Main Station in about 40 minutes;
- the Düsseldorf main station in about 30 minutes;
- the Wuppertal main station can be reached in about 20 minutes.
The main station is the only station in Solingen that is connected to the long-distance network of Deutsche Bahn AG . With Intercity Express , Intercity , Regional Express , Regionalbahn and S-Bahn , all important types of train are available. The Solingen main station can be reached on the front above the station forecourt, which is directly adjacent to the upper Düsseldorfer Straße. As part of the modernization offensive 2, a partner program of the federal government, the state of North Rhine-Westphalia and the railway, the reception building was renovated with energy-saving measures. From 2015 onwards, the traffic areas were also upgraded. All platforms were raised to a height of 76 centimeters and lengthened to 430 meters. The roofs of platforms 1, 3 and 8 were demolished and replaced by new buildings. The total construction costs amounted to around 9.5 million euros.
A hotel is to be built at the rear of the main train station by 2021. The new hotel building will provide direct access to the rear of the station from Steinstraße.
