The Bebui ( Portuguese Ribeira Bebui or Rio Bebui) is an East Timorese river in the administrative office of Uato-Lari ( municipality of Viqueque ), in the southeast of the island of Timor .

course

The Defaliu rises in the administrative office Quelicai (municipality Baucau ), in the border area between the Sucos Maluro and Lelalai , and flows south into the Suco Afaloicai (administrative office Uato-Lari, municipality Viqueque). Here he meets Tualequi, who comes from the east of Afaloicai . Both rivers together now form the Bebui. Further south, on the border with Babulo , the Roliu flows into the Bebui from the east. Farther south again, the Dulequi flows into the Bebui from the west , which up to its mouth forms the border river between Babulo in the east and Afaloicai and Uaitame in the west. The Dulequi has its source in Suco Nahareca ( Ossu administrative office ), as does its northern tributary, the Uailequi . The last tributaries of the Bebui are the Liacaque from Babulo, the Iramuin , the border river between Afaloicai and Uaitame and the Cailao . This rises as Belia in the Suco Matahoi , first flows south into the town of Uato-Lari , but then swings to the east before it curves again to the south. Kutz before it flows into the Timor Sea, it now makes a bend to the northeast as the Cailao and flows parallel to the coast into the Bebui, which shortly afterwards reaches the Timor Sea.

In the dry season between May and November the water level of the Bebui sinks sharply, while the river floods the land along its entire course in the rainy season and above all, with the unusual course of the Belia and Cailao, the area around the place Uato-Lari threatened. The same applies to the place Uaitame in the Suco of the same name.

In 2008 a large irrigation project was started on the Bebui in the Sucos Afaloicai, Matahoi and Uaitame. Here one uses the year-round water supply by the river for one of the largest rice fields in southeast East Timor. The construction project was completed in 2012.
