Bentwisch is a municipality in the Rostock district in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania (Germany). It is administered by the Rostocker Heide office.

Geographical location
Bentwisch is located northeast of Rostock on federal highway 105 and not far from federal highway 19 .

history
From the 13th century until today
The first documented mention of the place can be traced back to the year 1235, but there were probably Wendish settlements before that. The history of the community is closely linked to that of the Hanseatic city of Rostock . Due to its location near Rostock and its favorable transport connections, Bentwisch has become an important business location in the years after reunification .
From 1952 to 1994 Bentwisch belonged to the Rostock-Land district (until 1990 in the GDR district of Rostock , 1990–1994 in the state of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania ). In 1994 the community was incorporated into the Bad Doberan district. Since the district reform in 2011 , it has been in the Rostock district .
Incorporations
On July 1, 1950, the previously independent communities Albertsdorf , Goorstorf and Harmstorf were incorporated. On January 1, 2018, the municipality of Klein Kussewitz from the Carbäk district became part of Bentwisch.

- Bentwisch village church , brick building with field stone plinth from the 14th century and a two- bay, flat - cornered nave , the choir with a 5/8 end and rib vault , both separated by a triumphal arch . The free-standing bell tower is made of wood. The carved winged altar with four wings from the 15th century and a wooden pulpit from the late Renaissance are remarkable . The organ was built by Heinrich Rasche in 1852 .
- Volkenshagen village church , stone church with 47 m high tower, first mentioned in 1297, reconstruction 1892–1895, organ by Friedrich Hermann Lütkemüller (built in 1862)
- Gutshaus Klein Kussewitz , built in 1803, rebuilt in the neo-Gothic style in the middle of the 19th century , renovated in 2002, now used as a hotel and event location
- Silo Klein Kussewitz , built in 1928, converted into a residential building in 2000
Economy and Infrastructure

- Substation for 220/110 kV and converter station of the HVDC Kontek . Both systems are about a kilometer apart. In 2002 the Bentwisch converter station was expanded to include a 380/110 kV substation and a 110 kV three-phase overhead line was built between the converter station and the 220/110 kV substation, which, unlike the converter station, dates back to GDR times . The 150 kV three-phase cable from the Baltic 1 offshore wind farm also ends in the Bentwisch converter station. There are some wind turbines in Bentwisch itself.

Bentwisch is on the B 105 federal road between Rostock and Ribnitz-Damgarten and on the L 182 state road to Marlow . The closest motorway junction is Rostock-Ost on the A 19 (Rostock-Berlin).
Bentwisch station is on the Stralsund – Rostock railway line . It is served by the regional express line RE 9 ( Rostock - Sassnitz ) and the regional train line RB 12 ( Rostock - Graal-Müritz ). The connecting line to the Poppendorf fertilizer plant begins in Bentwisch .
Sports
The FSV Bentwisch , founded in 1966 as a football club , has around 400 members and is the only sports club in Bentwisch. It is divided into nine different departments, the soccer department being the largest with 200 members. He plays in the Landesliga Nord Mecklenburg-Vorpommern in the 2020/21 season.
