The hills to the east and west of the valley are partly 40 meters above the fog. The relief around Kuchelmiß was created during the last ice age. The edge of the ice lay north of Lake Krakow and left the terminal moraine behind after thawing . It has a hilly, domed relief and is characterized by changing soil types in the smallest of spaces, as well as stone scattering and large blocks. The meltwater first flowed to the southwest, leaving gullies behind. Later, around 10,000 years ago, the water flowed northwards, digging itself into the terminal moraine and forming the mist breakthrough valley.

Kuchelmiß is surrounded by the neighboring communities Lalendorf in the northeast, Vollrathsruhe in the southeast, Dobbin-Linstow in the south, Krakow am See in the west and Hoppenrade in the northwest.

The districts of Ahrenshagen , Hinzenhagen, Serrahn , Seegrube and Wilsen belong to Kuchelmiß .

Between Serrahn and Kuchelmiß, part of the breakthrough valley of the fog is opened up for tourism. The river here has the character of a mountain stream with stretches of scree, rocks, fallen trees and steep banks. Over a length of four kilometers, it has a gradient of 14 meters.

In the fog breakthrough valley near Kuchelmiß there is an old water mill from 1558. It was rebuilt after storm damage in 1751. The water wheel was replaced by a turbine as early as 1866 , the entire grinder was renewed years later and in 1911 new mill accessories were added. Since 1980, the mill has been extensively restored as a technical monument for the community and offers on three floors the presentation of the conversion of grain into meal and flour. The former miller's apartment was restored with many furnishings from the old miller's family. Journeyman's chamber, mill technical systems and functional rooms such as the baghouse, workshop and generator room can also be visited. Near the mill is the water tower that supplied the castle, the mill and the stables with drinking water. The water was pumped and stored in the tower by the fog. The tower itself can only be viewed from the outside, parts of the water pipe and the pump are still preserved. Also on the mill island is a recently restored mill barn, which is used for celebrations and as a meeting place. A new fish ladder and a new stone bread oven are also on the premises.

The dolmen of Wilsen , the Großdolmen of Serrahn and the church in the Serrahn district, documented for 1240, are worth seeing . The manor house in Kuchelmiß (owned by the von Hahn family since the 14th century ), whose half-timbering dates from 1650, has been preserved to this day. As a replacement for the manor house, Count Hahn built a new house in Serrahn in the 19th century. The two-storey mansion from 1866 in U-shape with a mansard roof was demolished in the 1950s and the estate was relocated. The art historian Udo von Alvensleben noted in his diary in 1938: “After all, right in front of Kuchelmiß in the forest there is the desolate splendid villa in the style of a man of money from the Second French Empire (the Serrahn manor) . The original owners, the Hahn auf Kuchelmiß, for whom the decent, old, still standing house (the Kuchelmiß manor) and its name were not fine enough, broke down on this wretched thing . ”Count Max Hahn (1838–1903), son of Count Friedrich Hahn on Basedow, sold the properties of Kuchelmiß, Serrahn , Wilsen, Wilser Hütte and Hinzenhagen to Prince Albert of Saxony-Altenburg in 1896 ; the area was considered one of the best deer hunts .
