Bismil is a city in the district of the same name (Ilçe) in the Turkish province of Diyarbakır and at the same time a district of the Büyükşehir belediyesi Diyarbakır (metropolitan municipality / metropolitan province ) created in 1993 . Bismil lies on the banks of the Tigris and borders the provinces of Batman and Mardin . With the creation of the district of the same name in 1936, Bismil also acquired the status of a Belediye (municipality) (according to the city logo ). At the end of 2018, Bismil was in fifth place in the population statistics of the 17 counties in Diyarbakır Province.
Events
In an attack on a police building on August 15, 2016, five police officers and two civilians were killed and 20 others were injured. According to Turkish information, the Kurdish Workers' Party should be responsible.
