Kayapınar ( Turkish for rock spring ) ( Kurdish : Payas or Peyas ) is a city in the district of the same name in the Turkish province of Diyarbakır and at the same time a district of the Büyükşehir belediyesi Diyarbakır (metropolitan municipality / metropolitan province ) in southeastern Turkey .
The first settlement in Kayapınar County was Peyas Village. In 1991 the town with about 3,000 inhabitants became a municipality (tr: Belde). The city of Diyarbakır was declared a metropolitan commune in December 1993 and received a lord mayor's office. At that time, mayor offices were established in the Sur and Yenişehir districts. Kayapınar received a mayor's office in 2004 and became a municipality .
In March 2008, the urban area of Diyarbakır was divided into four newly founded İlçe : Bağlar , Sur , Yenişehir and Kayapınar. The city of Diyarbakır as a whole no longer existed and was no longer included in the statistics.
The total population of İlçe Kayapınar was 362,407 at the end of 2018, which is the second most populous of the 17 İlçe. The four central city districts recorded a total of 1,069,893 inhabitants on 2,494 km².
