Bruno Valfrid Ahlberg (born April 23, 1911 in Espoo , † February 9, 1966 in Helsinki ) was a Finnish middleweight and welterweight boxer and two-time Olympic participant.

In 1932 he started in Los Angeles as a welterweight (under 66.68 kg). Ahlberg took 3rd place behind the American Edward Flynn and the German Erich Campe . In 1936 the amateur boxer competed again at the Olympic Games. However, in the first round he lost to James Clark Atkinson . Then he switched to the professional camp.

He carried out his first professional fight on April 24, 1937 in Johannesburg , South Africa against Archie JL Smith from South Africa. Ahlberg won on points after eight rounds. A week later he defeated Johnny de Villiers (South Africa) in Durban, also on points. In South Africa he fought three more fights in the summer of 1937, all of which he won or ended in a draw.

On March 17, 1938, he boxed against his undefeated compatriot and former Olympic champion Sten Suvio . In Helsinki , the middleweights parted in a draw. Then he defeated, among other things, the two Swedes Uno Asterlind and Gunnar Andersson .

Ahlberg won his first and last knockout win in 1939 against the German Walter Klockhaus in the fifth round. Ahlberg suffered his first defeat on his American tour in 1939 against Glen Lee from Nebraska . Two months later he competed against Jimmy Garrison in Hollywood . The American defeated Ahlberg by TKO in the eighth of ten rounds. After this defeat, Ahlberg only won once again against Gene Molnar from the United States.

He lost in 1940/41 to Hans Holdt (Denmark), Hans Drescher (Denmark), Robert Seidel from Switzerland through disqualification, Carlo Orlandi from Italy and Gustav Eder from Germany.

His fight on April 27, 1941 in Trondheim against the Norwegian Henry Tiller , whom he lost to knockout after 5 rounds, was the last professional fight for the then 35-year-old.

Ahlberg was also a good ski jumper and swimmer.
