Burkarts is a wasteland and part of the independent city of Kempten (Allgäu) . In 1451 two fiefdoms were named with zem Burkhartz . In 1593 five taxpayers are mentioned on probably two estates belonging to Burckhardts . It is a place name that refers to the personal name Burghart .

The place was attached to the rural community of Sankt Lorenz in 1818 and was subject to the parish Heiligkreuz . On July 1, 1972, Sankt Lorenz was incorporated into the city of Kempten.
