The 1977 CONCACAF Nations Cup was the seventh game of the continental football championship for North Central America and the Caribbean and took place in Mexico from October 8 to 23 . The game was played in the
Aztec Stadium in Mexico City and in the Estadio Tecnológico in Monterrey . As in the past, the six participants played the tournament winner in a simple league round, everyone against everyone.
For the second time, the tournament was also considered a qualification for the World Cup .
Host Mexico won the title for the third time after 1965 and 1971 and thus qualified for the Football World Cup in Argentina in 1978 , as CONCACAF only got a starting place of 16 places for the World Cup.
qualification
A total of seventeen CONCACAF member countries registered for the competition. Honduras withdrew before qualifying began. The remaining sixteen teams have been divided into three zones based on the geographic location of their nations:
North American Zone
